CORNHOLE RULES

At izzo, everyone is welcome whether you’re a beginner or an all-star. And if you’re part of the team, you play! All players who show up should play at least 1 game for their team. Above all else, we’re here to have a good time - so play hard, but be cool…and make some friends while you’re at it!

General Rules

  • Only 2 players from each team can play in a single game. Teams with more than 2 players can rotate between games but the same 2 players must start and complete each game.

  • Every week you will face off with another team to play 3 games. There are 3 games in 1 match.

  • Subs may play for a $10 fee for the night. Subs can be used in place of an absent team member, not in addition to. When utilizing subs at least 1 original team member must be present on game night.

  • There are no gender rules. Teams may consist of any combination of 2-4 humans.

  • Forfeits are bad and no shows are the WORST. If you commit to play, make sure you can field a team each week. Larger team sizes and use of subs are recommended to ensure you have your numbers every week.

Game Rules

  • Boards are placed 27’ apart from each other measuring from the front of each board.

  • Two colors of bags will be used and each team gets four bags.

  • Players line up directly across from their teammate in the same lane. They should stand facing each other from opposite boards.

  • To determine which team tosses first and direction of play, one player from each team will throw one bag. The team closest to the hole gets the choice of direction of toss/or throwing first or second (not both). The team further from the hole may choose the other. The second and third game of the match then alternate direction of play and which team tosses first.

  • Opposing players next to the same board (same end) alternate tosses each round.

  • A bag landing on the board is worth 1 point.

  • A bag landing in the hole is worth 3 points.

  • Points are totaled at the end of each round of 8 tosses. Bags knocked off by other tosses are not worth any points.

  • Bags that bounce off the ground on to the board or bags touching the ground should be removed before the next toss and will not count.

  • Cancel out scoring will be used. For example, if team one scores 6 points in one round and team two scores 4 points, team one will throw first in the next round with the score of 2-0.

  • The first team to reach 21 points by the end of a round, wins the game, but teams must win by 2 points. Once a team reaches 21 points (winning by 2), the other team may still finish the round of 4 bags to try to tie or win.

  • If there is a tie after both teams reach 21 or if a team hasn’t won by 2 points, play will go into a sudden death where teams will continue rounds until a winner has been declared.

  • Teams will be seeded for playoffs based on their regular season record.
